Exhibition game: Asheville vs. Lees Mcrae

Where: Kimmel Arena
When: Mon., November 7th, 8 p.m.
TV: None
Radio: WWNC (Clear Channel) 570 AM; Available online/smartphone through iHeartRadio

A team’s first game is always an adventure, and this one should be doubly exciting for the Bulldogs.  Tonight marks the first official game in Kimmel Arena, though the Lady Bulldogs will get the first honor with a 5:30 game against Bluefield.

The Lees Mcrae Bobcats went 6-20 last year in the Division II Carolinas Conference and shouldn’t pose too much of a problem for the Bulldogs, who last played the Bobcats in 2008.  Back then, UNCA had just lost four of five starters (Bryan Smithson, Kenny George, KJ Garland, Vincent James) while starting two raw, talented freshmen guards in Matt Dickey and J.P. Primm.  Asheville still won the game 83-65.  This year, the ‘Dogs should have no problem beating Lees – McRae behind what an ESPN reporter called “the best tandem guard duo in the mid-majors.”  In addition to Primm and Dickey, the exhibition should provide a peek at Coach Eddie Beidenbach’s plans for his front court.  Expect to see some minutes for Jaleel Roberts, Jeremy Atkinson, and Jon Nwanunu as the Dogs try to figure out how to cope without D.J. Cunningham.  Also look for Matt and J.P. to push the tempo, using UNCA’s speed and experience to wear down the Bobcats.

Prediction: UNCA 88, Lees-McRae 60
